"This was taken south of Addis Abbaba. Somewhere around Jimma or Maji. The original HIRAN support base was at Asmara. This is now in Eritria (sp). Those with in the Atlantic ARRS were tasked to support it. We flew mountain resupply sites. Travelled with two 43s, two pilots each, I think a couple of crew chiefs each. The forward landing strips were supplied by 130s with rubber fuel cells, mail, food, etc. We would refuel at these strips then fly in mail, etc. to the mountain top HIRAN sites. Most of the time was sling loading the stuff in. Sometimes we'd land. Couple of landing strips were hot, dry & dusty. The person hooking the supplies up to the hook had to watch out for static electricity. By the way that's me looking out of the door. - Neil"
