This is an Interior View of the Crew/Cargo Area of an HH-43. I have marked some of the equipment. The opening above the Forest Penetrator is directly behind the Aircraft Commanders back. The crew member working the hoist out the side door could reach into the opening, grab the AC's flight suit on top of his shoulder, and give him direction for operating the helicopter in the event of a communications outage. The directions were simple:
Hover Forward: Tug forward on the AC's flight suit
Hover Backwards: Tug back on the AC's flight suit
I'm sure you can guess the actions for up and down, left to right.
